Impact Design Challenge

ATTENTION GIRLS IN GRADES 9, 10 & 11

 Impact Design Challenge for Girls Powered by Protohack is an innovation challenge in the form of a prototyping hackathon, a “protohack”. Through a protohack challenge, participants will take part in a learning experience built on a curriculum of design thinking, critical problem solving, and applied creativity. There is no coding or programming required. This is open to all female students in grades 9, 10 & 11, within our school board. It will provide the opportunity for students to participate in a social innovation challenge to “hack” solutions.


A protohack provides a venue for self-expression, creative thinking, and problem-solving which in turn will instill an innovator’s mindset . The workshop will take you through 4 stages of launching an idea, combining design thinking and entrepreneurial skills to develop a prototype. In the process of your prototype development, you will learn different prototyping tools, experiment with design thinking and theories, as well as practice their communication and critical thinking and collaboration skills.  You will be provided with guidance, frameworks, and expectations through the entire process by their business and community mentors.
